New York City Recap {day 1}

Well I think I am finally somewhat recovered from my quick weekend get away! I really had the best time and even though it was a short trip it was well worth it!

My flight was at 11:30 am on Friday. I arrived to the airport in plenty of time and got to my gate only to find out that the flight was delayed, but only 15 minutes so I wasn't too worried about it. Well the longer I sat the longer the delay got. As I was sitting at the gate I look over and who do I see...Al Roker from the Today show! I had literally just been watching him on our local news that morning and also on the Today show. Im not sure what he was in NC for but it was fun to see him in person..my mom told me to go over and say "Hi!" but I of course chickened out.

 We finally boarded the flight a hour and 45 min late. As we were taxing the runway the plane came to a stop and the captain said that we would be sitting there for an additional 40 minutes. Thanks to all the rain that the East Coast got over the week and a closed runway in NYC. I was just thankful that I didn't have my boys with me so I sat back and tried to relax. I am a super nervous flyer and relaxing isn't exactly in the realm of possibilities but I did try and distract myself by reading my book.

I finally landed and met my sweet friend Brooke at baggage claim. She was so kind to wait at the airport for over an hour so that we could ride to our hotel together. We got to our hotel in time to  change clothes and make it to our 5:45 dinner reservation at Carmine's. We stayed at the Millennium Broadway. It was right in the middle of times square and such a great location in regards to where our shows we were seeing were. We had a corner room and had a great view!

We walked the short 5 minute walk to dinner {in the rain!}. Carmines is a well known italian restaurant and I couldn't believe how packed it was at 5:45! The restaurant was really pretty and I loved how the had the menu hanging on the wall. It is all family style so we opted to get a caesar salad and the manicotti! It was amazing, seriously the best pasta I've ever had!

After dinner we had tickets to see Wicked. The theater was only about a 10 minute walk from the restaurant so out in the rain we went! Thankfully we both had raincoats and actually bought a $5 umbrella right outside our hotel before heading to dinner.

The show was so good! I saw it back in NC two years ago and loved it just as much the second time as I did the first! We had great seats! The show ended just before 11 and we started the walk back to our hotel. I was amazed at how everything in times square was still open! Who is shopping at Gap at 11;00 at night? We were going to go and get dessert somewhere but the wait was 45 minutes and we decided we would rather go back to the hotel and go to bed! I can't remember the last time I saw midnight. It was so nice to sleep in my own bed without anyone else! I seriously got the best nights sleep I've had in a long time!

We did a whole lot on Saturday since our Friday was cut short due to my late arrival. I will share all that we did in my post tomorrow!

  3. What a fun day!!!! B and I have been to NYC three times and all three times we have not been able to get a reservation at Carmine's! I have always wanted to eat there... it's on my bucket list, but we still haven't ever made it. Next time for sure! And girl, you are making me have some serious NYC withdrawals. I just love that city.

  4. Ok I can write a novel about this. I always go to Carmine's when I am in NYC. Usually for lunch, but we always go there. I always stay at the Marriott Marquis which is close to there. I have always wanted to see Wicked, but have never gone even though I have been to NYC so many times. I hope you were able to go to Juniors for cheesecake. Seriously the best. My first time in NYC, I went every night. I love NYC so much. I can't wait to hear about day 2!
