Girls Trip To The Lake

Well I definitely needed a day to recover from my weekend! I had the best time and was dragging yesterday!

I spent the weekend with 6 of my best friends from high school. It's amazing to think that we have been friends for 17 years (some even longer), over half our life! We've been through so much and have always remained close, no matter how much time goes between visits.

Friday I headed to Raleigh to meet my friend Rebecca so that we could ride together. Her parents just finished building a gorgeous house on Lake James, so when my group of girlfriends were trying to plan a weekend she quickly offered up this house! We arrived about 5 and two of the girls were already there. We got settled in and headed down to the dock with apps and a cocktail to wait the arrival of the last 3 girls.

Once everyone was there we cooked dinner. We made pizzas and had such a great time catching up and sitting at the big farm table. We ended up staying up until about 1:30 am just talking and having fun! I can't tell you the last time I saw midnight let alone 1:30 am!

I was certain that I would be wide awake at 7 am but much to my surprise I slept until 8:45, I can't tell you how nice it was to sleep in a bed all by myself and have no one to wake me up! We fixed breakfast and went for a walk around the neighborhood.

Once we got back we headed to the lake club that was just across the lake. We spent the whole day here, it was gorgeous! There was a pool, and also some fun water activities for on the lake. We all went paddle boarding,  much to my surprise I was able to stand up, but damn that is hard work! I didn't last long before I realized sitting was much easier than standing.

We enjoyed lunch and relaxing by the pool the rest of the afternoon. We headed back for cocktails, apps, and dinner. The porch was so nice to sit and relax and we enjoyed some guac and drinks before having tacos for dinner.

Afte dinner we played some games and chatted. We didn't stay up as late but it was definitely much later than my usual Saturday night.

Sunday morning we spent time drinking coffee on the porch and relaxing before packing up to head back home.

Rebecca and I commented on the drive back how sad we were that the weekend was already over. It felt like we spent months planning and then it came and went in the blink of an eye. Lucky for us we all live in NC and are able to see each other several times throughout the year.

I feel like it's rare to have best friends from high school once you've reached your thirties. I know these girls will always be there for me and vice versa. It's been so fun to see us get married, have babies and much more. I can't wait for the next trip!!

While I was gone Jack and Graham went to the beach with my inlaws and had the best time! Patrick also enjoyed some time at home alone. I know he loved the quiet house!

  9. What a perfect weekend! My girlfriends and I regularly get together for dinner, but we haven't gone on a girls' trip since college! We keep saying we're going to do it, but we still haven't. I'm dying to do one! Girlfriends are so good for the soul.
